Bradbury Wilkinson's contract with Banco de Portugal for this series placed production firmly in New Malden, Surrey — a detail worth noting because the plates were engraved in-house by BW's own team rather than sourced externally, giving the series a tighter uniformity across printings than many contemporary European issues managed. The "2nd print" designation reflects a reorder placed within the same design authorization, not a revised note.
Portugal's monetary position through the 1920s was precarious enough that successive print runs of existing designs were administratively simpler than commissioning new issues. Inflation was chronic, and the escudo itself had only replaced the real in 1911.
