Obverse description Central device features the colonial coat of arms of Portuguese Guinea, comprising the Portuguese shield — bearing five escutcheons charged with roundels arranged in a cross — superimposed upon an armillary sphere, symbolising Portuguese overseas expansion. A mural crown surmounts the shield above. Decorative floral ornaments flank the central device in the field to either side. The colony name GUINÉ arcs prominently along the upper legend, while the denomination 10$00 appears in large numerals below the shield. The entire design is framed by a beaded inner border.

Reverse description Central device displays the Portuguese national blazon — the royal shield bearing the five escutcheons with bezants — superimposed upon the cross of the Order of Christ, rendered in bold relief at the centre of the field. The legend REPUBLICA PORTUGUESA arcs along the upper periphery, while the date 1973 appears at the lower portion of the circular legend, flanked by raised dot separators. A beaded inner border frames the entire composition.
