Christian IV's multiple-ducat issues were struck primarily as presentation pieces and diplomatic gifts rather than for any commercial purpose — a distinction that matters enormously for understanding why survivors exist in the grades they do. His 60-year reign, the longest of any Danish monarch, saw Denmark drawn into the catastrophic Thirty Years' War, which drained the treasury so severely that large gold strikes of this kind became increasingly irregular after the 1620s.
Fr#69 sits in a long sequence of Friedberg-catalogued Danish multiples where attribution between reign-dates remains contested among specialists. Christian's mints at Copenhagen and Glückstadt both produced high-denomination gold, and distinguishing their output requires die study beyond what weight or composition alone can resolve.
