正面铭文 1256 IN HONOR HASSIAE 1956
背面描述 A stylized six-pointed cross with elongated arms dominates the field, each arm terminating in a decorative finial and flanked by foliate lily ornaments in the six angles between the arms. At the center, within a hexagonal cartouche, appears the Roman numeral X above the inscription DUCAT. The fineness mark 980 is placed at the lower portion of the vertical arm, just above the bottom edge. The circular legend surrounds the entire design, reading AVORUM NON MORITURA VIRTUS above and AUREUS MAGNUS below, separated by small decorative stars. The composition presents a strongly heraldic and Gothicizing aesthetic befitting its commemorative purpose.

附加信息

This is a medal restrike — not a circulating coin — produced by a private German mint in the post-occupation period when West Germany had no legal framework yet permitting gold coin production. The "Aureus Magnus" designation marks it as part of a series of large-format gold presentation pieces issued under quasi-historical German territorial names, with Hessen among the most commonly encountered. They were sold directly to collectors and found a ready export market, particularly in the United States, where appetite for European gold pieces outpaced supply of genuine historical material.

The X# reference confirms its status outside any official national coinage sequence.
