Obverse description A finely detailed three-masted sailing ship rendered in high relief occupies the central field, depicted underway with full sails set and an eagle device visible on the mainsail. The date 1955 appears in the lower left field. The Latin legend GERMANIA LIBERTATEM RECUPERAVIT curves along the upper periphery. The engraver's monogram is present in the lower right field. The overall composition is executed in a neo-Renaissance artistic style befitting the medallic tradition.
