| 正面描述 | The national coat of arms of Singapore occupies the central field, featuring a shield supported by a lion and a tiger, surmounted by a crescent and five stars, with an upward-curving ribbon at the base. Surrounding the arms is a circular legend inscribed in Singapore's four official languages: Malay (SINGAPURA), Chinese (新加坡), English (SINGAPORE), and Tamil (சிங்கப்பூர்). The national motto MAJULAH SINGAPURA appears on the ribbon below the shield. The date 1988 is positioned beneath the coat of arms, and the Singapore Mint mark (SM) is placed between the Chinese and English inscriptions in the upper border. |

Singapore's Lunar New Year bullion and commemorative program launched in 1976 with the Year of the Dragon cycle beginning in 1988 — one of twelve animals that would anchor the series for decades. The .500 fineness used here was a deliberate cost compromise, keeping the coin accessible to a Southeast Asian gift market where presentation value mattered as much as silver content. Proof strikes for this issue were produced in limited numbers at the Singapore Mint's Jurong facility, which had only operated independently from the Royal Mint's oversight since 1968.
