Obverse description The obverse bears the national seal of the Republic of the Marshall Islands centered in the field, depicting a frigate bird with spread wings above a traditional Marshallese outrigger canoe sailing on stylized waves, flanked by palm trees, with a radiant sun above. Two crossed traditional implements appear behind the central device. The circular legend REPUBLIC OF THE MARSHALL ISLANDS arcs along the upper rim, with the denomination $10 at the lower left and the date 1996 at the lower right, both flanking the seal. The national motto JEPILPILIN KE EJUKAAN is inscribed along the lower rim, and the word SEAL appears on a banner at the base of the central device. The entire design is framed by a beaded inner border and a rope-style outer border.

Reverse description The reverse features a bold relief depiction of the Space Shuttle Columbia mounted on its external fuel tank and twin solid rocket boosters, shown in a slightly angled launch configuration against a stippled field suggesting the darkness of space, accented by small star motifs. The name COLUMBIA arcs prominently along the upper portion of the field in large capital letters. The date 1996 appears in the lower left field, while the denomination 10 DOLLARS is inscribed in two lines at the lower right. The overall composition conveys a sense of power and upward momentum appropriate to the subject matter.
