The J35 Draken entry in that series honors the Swedish interceptor that entered service with Flygvapnet in 1960 — the first genuinely supersonic aircraft designed entirely in Western Europe, and the first with a double-delta configuration that influenced fighter geometry for decades.

Sweden's insistence on armed neutrality during the Cold War drove the Draken's development entirely through domestic funding and engineering, with Saab prohibited from relying on NATO design-sharing arrangements.
