| Obverse description | Central vignette of a two-storey domed colonial-style building with a flagpole atop its rotunda, reflected in water, rendered in green intaglio. Flanking the central vignette are two large ornate guilloche medallions bearing the denomination characters 拾圓 in bold, with the numeral 10 in corner cartouches. The bank title 廣東省銀行兌換券 appears in the upper legend, with two handwritten signatures and a purple official seal at lower right; the printer's imprint reads American Bank Note Co. The Provincial Bank of Kwangtung Province was one of several regional Chinese institutions that contracted American Bank Note Company during the late Qing and early Republican periods, when domestic security printing capacity was limited and foreign-engraved notes carried more public credibility. ABNC's New York plant produced the plates and sheets; the notes were then shipped to Canton for issue.
Kwangtung's currency situation in 1918 was complicated by the province's semi-autonomous political position under the southern military government, which was operating in direct opposition to the Beijing administration. Notes from this period circulated in a fractured monetary environment where provincial paper frequently traded at a discount against foreign silver.
