| 正面描述 | A faithful reproduction of the Liberty Head Quarter Eagle design originally created by Christian Gobrecht for the 1840–1907 $2.50 gold coinage. The obverse depicts a left-facing draped bust of Liberty wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY, her hair arranged in curls at the nape. Thirteen stars encircle the effigy in the field. The legend IN GOD WE TRUST appears above, flanked by the terminal dates of Buchanan's presidency, 1857 and 1861, with the mint year 2010 and mint mark W below, along with the inscription 15TH PRESIDENCY. |

Authorized under the Presidential $1 Coin Act of 2005, this series was created to honor the spouses — or in Buchanan's case, the absence of one. Buchanan is the only unmarried U.S. president, and his niece Harriet Lane served as White House hostess throughout his administration. The Mint accordingly issued this coin in her honor, making it one of the few pieces in the series not depicting an actual First Lady.
Struck in .9999 fine gold, it is among the purest compositions the U.S. Mint has produced for a bullion issue.
