| Opis awersu | A faithful reproduction of the Liberty Head Quarter Eagle design originally created by Christian Gobrecht for the 1840–1907 $2.50 gold coinage. The obverse depicts a left-facing draped bust of Liberty wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY, her hair arranged in curls at the nape. Thirteen stars encircle the effigy in the field. The legend IN GOD WE TRUST appears above, flanked by the terminal dates of Buchanan's presidency, 1857 and 1861, with the mint year 2010 and mint mark W below, along with the inscription 15TH PRESIDENCY. |

Surrounding inscriptions identify the issuing nation and denomination, with fineness and weight specifications completing the legend. The design is part of the First Spouse Gold Bullion Coin series, which honors the spouses or, in the case of bachelor presidents, the Liberty theme associated with their administrations. |
