| 正面描述 | The national coat of arms of Liberia is centrally depicted, featuring a sailing ship at sea, a palm tree, and a rising sun on a shield, with a plow and shovel in the lower portion. The shield is surmounted by a scroll bearing the national motto 'THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE', and flanked by decorative supporters. The legend 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA' appears both in the outer border at the top and on a banner below the shield, with the date divided as '20' to the left and '02' to the right of the central device. A beaded inner border frames the entire design against a mirrored field. |

Liberia ran an extensive series of commemorative issues in the late 1990s and early 2000s targeting the European collector market, capitalizing on the euro changeover that retired twelve national currencies simultaneously on January 1, 2002. These pieces were struck for export and never intended for circulation — Liberia's own monetary affairs are conducted in Liberian dollars, making the denomination here largely nominal.
The Italian lira, which this coin mourns, had survived since 1861 unification. Its final official rate was fixed at 1,936.27 lire to the euro.
