| 正面描述 | The arms of the Republic of Liberia occupy the central field, depicting a sailing ship on the sea before a rising sun, flanked by a palm tree and a dove in flight, with a plough in the foreground. The shield is surmounted by a scroll bearing the national motto THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE. The date 2001 is divided by the shield, with 20 to the left and 01 to the right. The outer legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcs above, and the denomination 10 DOLLARS is inscribed along the lower rim. A secondary legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA appears on a ribbon beneath the shield. |

Liberia's commemorative coinage of the late 1990s and early 2000s was largely driven by export sales rather than domestic circulation — these pieces were struck for the collector market and rarely, if ever, changed hands in Monrovia. The Gandhi issue sits in that category: a foreign subject chosen for international commercial appeal during a period when Liberia's own monetary system was severely strained by civil conflict.
KM#549 is one of dozens of similar-format Liberian commemoratives from this era, produced by private minting contractors rather than any state facility.
