This miniature gold issue belongs to a wave of novelty bullion pieces produced for the Asian collector market in the early 2010s, when mints across the Pacific — including the New Zealand Mint acting on behalf of Fiji — aggressively targeted Chinese buyers with pearl-themed and jade-inset formats.
