A scrolling ribbon below the shield bears the national motto in two segments reading PRIDE AND INDUSTRY. The date 1983 is divided on either side of the arms, flanked by the trident symbol of Barbados, and the legend BARBADOS curves along the lower periphery within a beaded border. |

Barbados issued this piece ahead of the 1984 Los Angeles Games, joining a wave of Caribbean nations that used Olympic commemoratives in the early 1980s as a revenue mechanism — collector sales, not circulation, were always the intended destination.
