The Battle of the Nations, fought outside Leipzig in October 1813, was the largest engagement in Europe before the First World War — roughly 600,000 troops across four days, with over 90,000 casualties. Napoleon's decisive defeat there effectively ended French dominance of Central Europe. The monument commemorated on this coin took over a century to complete: construction began in 1898 and was only finished in 1913, timed precisely to the battle's centenary.
