| Obverse description | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, depicted with a diademed and elaborately coiffed portrait after the fourth definitive effigy by Ian Rank-Broadley, whose engraver's initials 'IRB' appear below the truncation. The legend 'ELIZABETH II' arcs along the left rim and 'COOK ISLANDS' along the right rim, with the date '2009' positioned at the base of the field. The portrait is set against a deeply mirrored proof field. |

The Battle of the Nations, fought outside Leipzig in October 1813, was the largest engagement in Europe before the First World War — roughly 600,000 troops across four days, with over 90,000 casualties. Napoleon's decisive defeat there effectively ended French dominance of Central Europe. The monument commemorated on this coin took over a century to complete: construction began in 1898 and was only finished in 1913, timed precisely to the battle's centenary.
