Additional information

This issue is part of Belize's ongoing commemorative program, which has leaned heavily on large-format silver pieces since the country gained independence from Britain in 1981. The Montgomery in the title refers to General Bernard Law Montgomery, and the 1992 date places this squarely within the wave of Allied commander commemoratives that flooded the collector market around the 50th anniversaries of the major Second World War campaigns.

At 155.6 grams of .999 silver, these were produced for the international collector trade, not domestic circulation. Belize's GDP in 1992 made a coin of this intrinsic value essentially theoretical as currency.
