Part of a sprawling series of miniature gold issues produced for Fiji by the Pobjoy Mint, targeting the collector market rather than any plausible circulation. The Christ the Redeemer connection to Fiji is purely nominal — the denomination exists because Fiji's Crown dependency status made it a convenient issuing authority for commemorative programs with no domestic relevance whatsoever.
The 2012 statue choice marks the 80th anniversary of the monument's consecration on Corcovado, completed October 12, 1931.
