Occupying the lower half of the field is a semi-circular inlaid compartment bordered by a raised silver frame, within which a strand of genuine white freshwater pearls is set along the curved inner edge against a dark background. Part of a broader Pacific-region collector series issued through the Reserve Bank of Fiji, this piece is one of several struck by foreign mints under Fijian authority during a period when the country's numismatic program was effectively contracted out to produce themed bullion collectibles with little connection to Fijian monetary history. The "White Pearl" designation refers to the South Sea pearl trade, historically centered in Chinese coastal waters.
Fiji's use of its issuing authority for third-party collector coins accelerated sharply after 2010, generating significant licensing revenue.
