The Perth Mint's annual Lunar Series II ran from 2008 through 2019, making this Year of the Pig issue the final release in that twelve-year cycle. The series was conceived as a direct successor to Lunar Series I, which had itself concluded in 2007 after tracking a complete twelve-year zodiac cycle beginning with the Rat in 1996.
The 10-ounce format attracted steady institutional and collector demand throughout the run, though mintages on the larger bullion pieces were always tightly capped relative to the one-ounce issues.
