New Zealand's decimal transition in 1967 replaced the pound series at a rate of two dollars to one pound, and this note entered circulation as part of that first decimal issue. De La Rue held the contract throughout the series run, printing in London for a country that wouldn't bring its currency printing onshore until the 1980s. The 14-year span of this issue, with four different signatories cycling through — Fleming, Wilks, Knight, and Hardie — reflects Governor and Chief Cashier turnover at the Reserve Bank rather than any reissue or revision to the note itself.
Watermark security was the sole mechanical anti-counterfeiting measure. By the time Hardie's signature appeared on examples late in the run, polymer substrate technology was already being developed in Australia, which would eventually push the entire region away from paper issues entirely.
