Obverse description Intaglio portrait of Queen Elizabeth II at right, wearing a tiara and pearl necklace, set against an intricate guilloche underprint in blue and ochre tones. The denomination 'TEN DOLLARS' is printed in large letterpress to the left, flanked by ornate lathe-work vignettes at each corner. The issuer's name appears in a solid dark band along the lower border, with the Chief Cashier's signature printed centrally below the portrait.

Reverse description Central vignette of a Kea parrot (Nestor notabilis) perched on a rocky outcrop with wings spread, rendered in fine intaglio engraving against a mountain landscape background. A cluster of Mountain Lily (Ranunculus lyallii) blooms occupies the upper left, with a geometric diamond-shaped numeral panel at lower left and a further numeral cartouche at upper right. Multicoloured Māori-inspired decorative borders frame the composition on both sides.
