| Reverse description | Left-facing portrait bust of Christopher Columbus occupies the central field, rendered in high relief with fine detail in the facial features and period costume. A cartographic depiction of the Atlantic Ocean, suggesting the explorer's transatlantic route, fills the background. The legend 'DISCOVERY OF THE NEW WORLD' arcs along the upper periphery, flanked by the engraver's initials 'ASH', while the denomination '10 DOLLARS' appears in the lower field, all within a beaded border. |

| Additional information |
The Bahamas issued this coin to mark the run-up to the 1992 quincentenary of Columbus's first landfall, which most historians place at San Salvador — an island now within Bahamian territory. That geographic claim gave Nassau particular motivation to participate in the wave of commemorative issues flooding the market in the early 1990s.
Struck by the Royal Mint on contract, as was standard for Bahamian commemoratives of this period.
