Beschrijving keerzijde A highly detailed, close-up portrait of a Cotton-Top Tamarin (Saguinus oedipus) fills the oval field, rendered with fine engraving that captures the animal's distinctive radiating white crest of hair, dark facial features, and textured fur. Two inlaid cabochon gemstones of deep reddish-brown color are set as the eyes of the tamarin, providing a striking three-dimensional effect. The Latin binomial species name 'SAGUINUS OEDIPUS' is inscribed in an arc along the upper right portion of the border.

Aanvullende informatie

The cotton-top tamarin — native to a narrow strip of northwestern Colombia — was listed as critically endangered by the IUCN well before this coin was issued, with wild population estimates below 6,000 individuals. Fiji has no geographic or ecological connection to the species; this is straightforwardly a bullion-adjacent wildlife series produced for the collector market, a revenue mechanism that small island nations with recognized minting authority have used aggressively since the 1990s.

KM#475 is one of several issues Fiji released that year under similar wildlife themes, all struck to one-troy-ounce .999 fine silver.
