Additional information

The Marshall Islands began issuing commemorative collector coinage in the late 1980s as a direct revenue strategy following independence, with the U.S. Mint striking many early pieces under contract. By 1998, the program had expanded to dozens of themes annually, Christmas issues among the most regularly produced. These circulated almost exclusively through overseas collector markets — the coins were never intended for, nor saw, domestic use in the atolls.
