To the right, a large, dominant full-length figure of Louis XIV stands in regal pose, dressed in his iconic royal regalia including an ermine-trimmed mantle adorned with fleurs-de-lis, lace cravat, and holding a cane; peacocks are depicted at his feet. In the background to the left, a detailed architectural rendering of the Palace of Versailles is shown set within its formal gardens, with courtiers in period costume promenading in the foreground. The mint master's crowned monogram EW appears within a cartouche above the central field. The dates 1638 – 1715 are inscribed at the top of the field, and the name LOUIS XIV. appears in a rectangular cartouche at the base.
