| Obverse description | Printed in olive-green and black on cream paper, the obverse carries the Royal Arms vignette at centre, flanked by denomination panels reading "$10" at upper left and right. The issuer title "THE CHARTERED BANK OF INDIA, AUSTRALIA & CHINA" runs in bold letterpress across the mid-field, above a manuscript promise-to-pay text reading "Promises to pay the Bearer on Demand at its Office here TEN DOLLARS or the equivalent in the Currency of the Island, Value received." Chinese characters appear along both vertical margins and along the lower border, with serial number "No. 5451" repeated at upper left and right, and the place and date "HONGKONG" and "10th March 1862" inscribed in manuscript. |
