Tajikistan's diram denominations were reintroduced in 2011 after the country's disastrous first post-Soviet currency experiment — the Tajik rouble — collapsed under civil war conditions and was replaced by the somoni in 2000, with small-denomination coins largely absent from circulation for years afterward.
