Andorra's coinage authority during this period sat with the Episcopal Co-Princes — the Bishop of Urgell and the President of France — a feudal arrangement dating to the 1278 Paréage. Joan Martí i Alanis held the Urgell bishopric from 1971 until his death in 2009, and his name appears on numerous Andorran issues across those decades as the ecclesiastical co-issuing authority rather than as a subject of commemoration.
