Obverse description The obverse features a large, stylized Arabic calligraphic composition in the center of the field, incorporating the word 'Kuwait' in an artistic script. To the upper right appears the State of Kuwait coat of arms — a falcon bearing a shield with a traditional dhow on waves — flanked by the Arabic legend 'دولة الكويت' (State of Kuwait) along the upper rim and the Latin legend 'STATE OF KUWAIT' to the left. Below the coat of arms, the seal of the Central Bank of Kuwait is depicted, showing a sailing vessel. An oval cartouche within the calligraphic design bears the Arabic inscription 'عاصمة الثقافة الإسلامية 2016' (Capital of Islamic Culture 2016), and a commemorative Arabic legend curves along the lower rim recording the occasion of Kuwait's designation as Capital of Islamic Culture for the year 2016, with the date in Arabic numerals ٢٠١٦.

Reverse description The reverse displays a large gilt appliqué at center, fashioned in high relief to resemble a classical Islamic gold dinar — its surface bearing multiple concentric bands of densely engraved Kufic and Naskh Arabic calligraphic inscriptions evoking early Abbasid coinage traditions, including the Shahada and honorific titles. The surrounding silver field is tiered with concentric raised rims, lending a deeply sculptural quality to the composition. An ornamental arabesque or floral device appears at the lower field beneath the appliqué. The commemorative English legend 'Commemorative Issue as the State of Kuwait, the Capital of Islamic Culture for the year 2016' curves along the upper rim, while the denomination '10 DINARS' and its Arabic equivalent 'عشرة دنانير' appear at the lower rim.
