Superimposed at the centre is a map of Tunisia on a pedestal, surmounted by the linked Olympic rings and the national crescent-and-star symbol above. The Arabic legend commemorating the 14th Anniversary of 7 November curves along the upper rim. Five-pointed stars are arranged along the lower periphery, flanking the dual dates '2001' and '1422' inscribed at the bottom of the field. The engraver's name appears in small Arabic script in the lower right field. |

Tunisia's "Coup d'état" commemoratives mark November 7, 1987, when Zine El Abidine Ben Ali had Prime Minister Bourguiba declared medically unfit by a team of doctors — removing the 84-year-old independence hero from power without firing a shot. Ben Ali rebranded the event as a "medical coup" and institutionalized its anniversary as a national celebration, issuing commemorative coinage annually throughout his presidency. By 2001, this had become a well-established series, with the Arabic-legend variant struck alongside a French-legend counterpart to serve different collector markets.
