| Obverse description | The stylized German Federal Eagle rendered in a bold, modernist design occupies the central field, displayed with wings spread and talons visible at the base. The denomination '10' appears prominently beneath the eagle in large numerals, flanked by the legend 'DEUTSCHE' to the left and 'MARK' to the right, with the date '1998' and mint mark following. The circular legend 'BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND' runs along the upper periphery, interrupted by a separating dot. The overall design reflects the clean, graphic aesthetic characteristic of post-war West German coinage. |

The Peace of Westphalia, concluded in Osnabrück and Münster in 1648, ended the Thirty Years' War — a conflict that had killed roughly a third of the German-speaking population through combat, famine, and disease. The commemorative was issued on the 350th anniversary of those treaties, which also established principles of state sovereignty and religious tolerance that later legal scholars consider foundational to modern international law.
Germany's 10 Mark commemorative silver program ran from 1972 through the euro transition, and this was among the final issues before the series ended.
