Obverse description Portrait of the young Lucas Cranach the Elder occupies the right portion of the note, rendered in fine intaglio engraving against a blue-violet guilloche underprint. The centre carries a large numeral 10 within a purple ornamental vignette flanked by the letters DM on each side, with the inscriptions ZEHN DEUTSCHE MARK and DEUTSCHE BUNDESBANK arranged vertically. An oval watermark medallion bearing the denomination text appears at the lower left, alongside two facsimile signatures and the place and date of issue.

Reverse description The sailing training barque Gorch Fock is rendered in a central intaglio vignette, shown under full sail on open water, symbolising Germany's maritime tradition and openness to the world. The note number and copyright year appear alongside the issuer's name.
