Banco Salvadoreño was one of several private Salvadoran banks of issue operating before the government centralized currency production under the Banco Central de Reserva in 1934. The American Bank Note Company — the dominant commercial security printer in the Americas during this period — handled production for most of these private issuers, which means ABNC plates and design conventions are common across contemporaneous notes from El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras.
What distinguishes this particular series is its brevity: Banco Salvadoreño lost its note-issuing privileges as part of the broader nationalization sweep, and the window during which these 10 Colones circulated was narrow. Survivors in any condition are scarcer than catalog frequency might suggest.
