| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central field features large Chinese characters reading 香港壹毫 (Hong Kong Ten Cents) arranged in a two-by-two grid within an inner beaded circle. The English legend HONG KONG arcs across the upper periphery, flanked by ornamental stars, while TEN CENTS appears along the lower periphery. The date 1886 is positioned at the lower right within the beaded circle. The overall layout reflects the standard colonial coinage design adapted for Hong Kong circulation. |

Piedfort trial strikes of this type were produced not for circulation but for submission to the Colonial Office in London, where officials assessed proposed coinage before authorizing full production runs. The 1886 Hong Kong 10-cent series was among several denominations under review as the colony worked to standardize its subsidiary silver coinage amid growing trade volumes through the port.
Brass was the standard material for trial pieces of this period — cheap enough to produce multiples, durable enough to survive bureaucratic handling across hemispheres.
