Beschrijving voorzijde A full-rigged sailing ship under sail is depicted in the centre of the coin, rendered in fine relief against a plain field. The vessel is shown underway on choppy seas, with all sails set. The legend ALDERNEY arcs across the upper periphery, while the date 2004 appears in the lower exergual area. The inscription ESSAI PATTERN PROBE TEST runs along the lower border, identifying this piece as a multi-language test strike.

Aanvullende informatie

Alderney, though a dependency of Guernsey, has never operated its own circulating coinage — any pattern strikes produced under its name are collector-oriented issues authorised through Guernsey's own monetary authority. The 2004 date places this squarely in a period when Nordic Gold was gaining traction across Europe following its adoption for the €0.10, €0.20, and €0.50 euro coins in 1999, making the alloy a natural choice for any issuer wanting to signal euro-adjacent credibility without actually joining the eurozone.

As a pattern, it never entered circulation on Alderney — an island of roughly 2,000 residents that uses the pound sterling in daily commerce.
