The central field displays the denomination 'ONE PENNY' in bold serif lettering within a beaded inner circle, flanked above and below by delicate foliate ornaments. The outer legend 'COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA' arcs around the upper periphery, while the date '1930' appears at the base between two small decorative dots. A fine beaded border separates the inner device from the outer legend, itself bounded by a toothed outer rim. The entire composition is rendered in deeply mirrored cameo proof, celebrating one of Australia's most iconic and numismatically significant pre-decimal coins. |

The 1930 penny is the most famous rarity in Australian copper coinage — a year when the Melbourne Mint struck only a few thousand pieces as a depression-era economy measure, leaving collectors chasing a coin that most Australians have never seen in the flesh. This 1999 issue reproduces the reverse design of that penny as the central motif, effectively embedding one of the country's great numismatic myths inside a proof silver ten-cent piece.
