| Obverse description | Central field features a colourized depiction of the Fiji flying fox (Beka mirimiri, Mirimiri acrodonta), the smallest of Fiji's three native fruit bat species, known to inhabit only the island of Taveuni. The country name FIJI arcs along the upper legend, with the date 2012 and the Fijian vernacular name Beka mirimiri completing the inscription. The naturalistic rendering of the bat is highlighted with colour applied to the struck relief. |

Fiji's decimal coinage was overhauled in 2012 when the Reserve Bank withdrew the existing series and introduced smaller, lighter coins to reduce minting costs — a practical reform driven partly by the price of nickel following the commodity spikes of the late 2000s. The colourized variant of this issue was produced for the collector market, not general circulation.
