| 表面の説明 | The national coat of arms of Trinidad and Tobago occupies the central field, featuring a shield divided into three sections and supported by a scarlet ibis on the dexter side and a cocrico on the sinister side, both rendered in fine detail. A steel helmet and a ship's wheel surmount the shield as crest. A ribbon below the supporters bears the national motto in two parts. The circular legend REPUBLIC OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO arcs across the upper field, while the date appears in the lower exergue area. |

Trinidad and Tobago gained full independence from Britain in 1962, but the Central Bank wasn't established until 1964 and didn't issue its own decimal coinage until 1976 — replacing a transitional series that still carried colonial design DNA. The 1976 issue marked the first fully sovereign decimal coinage for the twin-island republic.
The extraordinarily long production run across four decades reflects chronic under-replacement rather than deliberate planning. Coins from the 1970s and 1980s turn up in circulation worn nearly smooth alongside near-mint examples from the 2010s.
