Mas de Barberans is a small municipality in the Terra Alta comarca of Tarragona, and this 10 céntimos note belongs to the vast emergency coinage phenomenon of the Spanish Civil War — specifically the wave of locally issued paper fractional currency that flooded Catalonia from 1936 onward after metallic coin effectively vanished from circulation. Hundreds of municipal councils, including some with populations well under a thousand, printed their own small-denomination notes to keep local commerce moving.
Turró's catalog documents over 1,400 such issues. Reaching #1457 puts Mas de Barberans near the outer edge of that enumeration.
