| 正面描述 | Draped bust of Marianne, personification of the French Republic, facing left, wearing a Phrygian cap with trailing ribbons, rendered in the neoclassical style of Augustin Dupré. The hair is bound and falls loosely at the neck. The circular legend REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE runs along the outer periphery of the coin, with a beaded border encircling the entire design. |

The Dupré module essays of 1870 were produced at a moment of institutional collapse — the Franco-Prussian War ended the Second Empire in September, and the nascent Third Republic was simultaneously fighting Prussian forces and rebuilding a monetary administration from scratch. Pattern strikes like this one were part of exploratory work on a reformed decimal coinage that would never reach circulation in this form. The essai designation and oversized module suggest this was a weight-standard reference piece rather than a circulation candidate.
