Obverse description Laureate bust of Louis-Philippe I facing left, his hair rendered in finely detailed curls beneath a wreath of oak leaves tied with a ribbon at the nape of the neck. The king is depicted with a short beard and a draped truncation at the shoulder. The encircling legend reads LOUIS PHILIPPE I to the left and ROI DES FRANÇAIS to the right, following the inner border of the milled rim. The engravers' signatures TIOLIER ET BARRÉ appear in small characters at the base of the truncation.
