| Obverse description | Bare-headed bust of José Gervasio Artigas, national hero and founding father of Uruguay, facing right, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair and period civilian attire. The engraver's initials 'HP' appear in the field below the truncation. The circular legend 'REPÚBLICA ORIENTAL DEL URUGUAY' arcs around the upper periphery, while the name '·ARTIGAS·' is inscribed across the lower field and the date '1953' appears in the exergue. The entire design is framed by a continuous border of raised beads. |
