Banco Nacional Ultramarino's 10 Centavos of 1914 belongs to a fractional series rushed out to address a chronic small-change shortage in Portuguese colonial territories — a problem that plagued the entire Lusophone world in the early twentieth century as silver coin disappeared from circulation.
