The circumferential legend reads 'C.A. REPUBLICA DE HONDURAS' along the upper arc, with the denomination '10 CENTAVOS' inscribed along the lower arc. The design is executed in a bold, high-relief engraving style characteristic of mid-nineteenth-century American die work.

The 1878–1879 issues were produced under contract at the Tegucigalpa mint, which operated with limited equipment and inconsistent planchet quality throughout this decade. Die alignment problems are not uncommon on this type.
