The Zhizheng Tongbao series was authorized in 1350 under Emperor Toghon Temür, the last Yuan ruler, as part of a desperate attempt to stabilize an economy already collapsing under the weight of failed paper currency reforms. The heavy 10-cash denomination was largely symbolic — by this point the dynasty was fighting simultaneous rebellions across the Huai River valley and southern China, and actual coin circulation was increasingly meaningless where Red Turban forces controlled the supply routes.
Production likely ceased well before the formal dynastic end in 1368, when Zhu Yuanzhang's forces took Dadu.
