The legend 同治通寶 (Tongzhi Tongbao) is rendered in regular script (kaishu) within the plain inner rim, with each character occupying one of the four cardinal positions around the central perforation. The fields are flat and unadorned, bounded by a raised inner rim surrounding the square hole and a plain outer rim. The casting is typical of the Qing provincial style, with moderately defined strokes. |
