| Obverse description | Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are arranged in the traditional cash-coin format around a central square perforation: read top-to-bottom and right-to-left, they read 成通泰寶 (Thành Thái Thông Bảo). The character 成 (Thành) appears at the top, 通 (Thông) to the right, 泰 (Thái) at the bottom, and 寶 (Bảo) to the left of the square hole. The characters are boldly cast in raised relief against a flat field, enclosed within a plain inner rim bordering the square hole and a raised outer rim defining the coin's edge. The composition and style follow the classical Sino-Vietnamese cash-coin tradition. |
