| Obverse description | Four boldly cast Chinese ideograms in elegant seal script (zhuanshu) are arranged symmetrically around a central square perforation, read in the traditional manner: top, right, bottom, left. The legend 泰和重寶 (Taihe Zhongbao) denotes the Taihe reign era of Emperor Zhangzong of Jin (1201–1208) and the denomination 'heavy currency.' The characters occupy the four quadrants of the coin field with narrow rims framing both the outer edge and the inner square hole. The casting is of fine quality, with well-defined strokes displaying the fluid, rounded forms characteristic of Jin dynasty seal-script coinage. |
